Minor Updates

Minor Updates

1 New aggregate type – Count distinct. This aggregate counts distinct values in a data set, such as how many different categories a specific customer viewed.

2 You can now skip N values for the first, last and the most common aggregate. For example, you can use the aggregate „first purchase timestamp > skip 1“, which will give you the second purchase timestamp, etc.

3 We have improved the performance of catalogs. As a result, recommendations are now 4x faster.

4 It is now possible to add consent events through scenarios.

5 The {% abort %} Jinja function is now visible in the personalization drop-down functions. If used in an email, you can now see the abort runs in the scenarios test tab (when you hover over the email node).

Scenario condition and wait node improvements

Update

Scenario condition and wait node improvements

In general, conditions without Jinja are now about 50% faster, however, when multiple conditions are connected in chains or networks in a scenario, the speed improvement is insane.

In the past, the scenario on the picture took over 3 hours to complete due to streaming billions of customers between the conditions, even though it actually affects only a few thousand.

That’s why it was previously recommended to place the most eliminating conditions first or combine conditions, if possible.

The new system is able to detect and simultaneously evaluate all connected conditions with minimal overhead.

The example scenario now executes in less than half a minute – an improvement in the scale of hundreds.

What this means for you

You no longer need to worry about the most optimal order of condition nodes or combine them, scenarios will be fast and efficient anyway. Note the optimization can only reach within connected chains or networks of conditions without Jinja, other nodes keep their previous speed.

Another improvement in conditions is their stability. Scenarios processing tens of millions of customers previously had a limited risk of getting permanently stuck. This risk is now significantly reduced, thanks to a complex system of recovery and this will be completely eliminated once the improvement is completed in a future release.

We also improved the stability of wait nodes with Jinja, which should now be safe for use even with large amounts of customers.

Minor Updates

1 Exponea is again nicer than before. What’s more important, switching between the left-hand menus is now easier.  It prevents the mouse cursor to accidentally close the secondary menu when moving between the primary and secondary menus.

2 More „quick edit“ actions. You can now clone a component directly from the list view.

3 You can now send test emails when working with templates in the asset manager.

4 Delete a customer when you are inside their profile. Just click on the three dots in the top-right corner.

Non-secure Protocols (HTTP and FTP) Deprecation

Fix

Non-secure Protocols (HTTP and FTP) Deprecation

Your data is a priority so we protect it by all possible means. That’s why we have examined all the various ways how to protect data which enter or exit Exponea. One of which is the switching of HTTP and FTP connectivity to their more secure counterparts.

HTTP and FTP are cleartext protocols that do not use encryption in transit. Data in transit is being accessed over the network, which could therefore be intercepted by someone else, either on the network or with access to the physical media the network uses. An attacker could intercept your traffic and read your data, copy your credentials, or even modify and duplicate files. To protect the confidentiality and integrity of your data and the personal data of your clients, make sure to encrypt your data in transit, using SSL/TLS or an encrypted equivalent (switch HTTP to HTTPS and FTP to SFTP).

How can I be affected?

-Your imports and/or webhooks (which use non-secure transit protocols) will stop working completely.

-Your campaigns which are dependent on that data can also stop working or perform in unexpected ways

What do I have to do to prevent this?

-Please make sure that any usage of the below is replaced with the respective secure alternatives by May 31st, 2019.

-Import CSV from HTTP or FTP to be replaced by HTTPS or SFTP.

-Webhooks to HTTP endpoint to be replaced by HTTPS endpoint.

What is the timeline?

Initial deprecation notice

-You are expected to switch HTTP transit to HTTPS.

Final deprecation notice

-Will be sent once the full support for SFTP is implemented (at least 30 days ahead of the final shutdown of HTTP and FTP)

-You are expected to switch FTP transit to SFTP

HTTP and FTP is removed (earliest on May 31st, 2019)

If you have questions about the changes, please contact our support on Live chat or your Customer Success Manager.

Webhook Speed Limits

New

Webhook Speed Limits

Why: Webhook is a common option for integration with 3rd party services in Exponea. The 3rd party services might have throughput limitations. If the maximum number of parallel requests is exceeded, your system may slow down or stop working. Make sure that you don’t exceed these limitations with Webhook Speed Limits.

The throughput of Webhooks depends on two factors:
1) The speed of your service and its response time to Webhook request
2) The number of parallel requests that Exponea creates to your service

How it works: With Webhook Speed Limits you can manage the number of processing jobs on the Exponea side. Once you set the maximum number of processing jobs you can estimate the throughput by hitting the Test button when Exponea creates a small number of requests. The estimated throughput is calculated as the metric requests/second and requests/minute.

Please note that the number of processing jobs is different for each instance and ranges between 1-15.
